September Hive Check at Luckey Bee Farms in Gilbert, AZ
Just another day at Luckey Bee Farms, doing more hive checks. We requeened the hive several weeks ago, so we are going in to check and see if the queen is still alive and how the hives are behaving.
So far the queen has been busy, there is capped brood and larvae.
Can you see the queen on the above photo?
The girls have been busy making nectar and honey.
The capped cells are brood cells.
We had some aggressive hives, so while we requeened, we also split the hives in half. We put 5 frames and half the bees in this temporary nuc.
Queen spotting again…. can you see her? She is hiding….
Here is a better picture of her.
Can you see the different colors in bees? Some are darker and some are lighter. The new queen is producing lighter bees.
Here is another queen in a different hive. she has been super busy as well.
Here she is again… can you see her?
Sometimes when we take the frames out some of the capped honey gets nicked and starts pouring out. These girls we saving the honey.
This is one of our hives that is very full! When we go to inspect them they just keep flowing out.
From a rescued hive, the bees are loving their new home. Doesn’t it make a great beard on Ernie?
